FortisBC, BC Hydro and Your Surplus Power in Penticton
The South Okanagan has three kinds of utility. Penticton and Summerland run their own municipal electric utilities with their own net-metering terms, and rural properties outside those towns are on FortisBC or BC Hydro depending on the address. When your panels produce more than the house is using, the surplus goes onto the grid, and since July 1, 2026 the two utilities credit it differently.
